Giant washing machines don’t intimidate me. I actually find them beautiful. Press start, wait, and suddenly denim comes out with a whole new personality.

I began my career in biotechnology, working with enzymes for textile applications, before moving from genes to jeans, discovering the world of denim where science, creativity, and culture unexpectedly meet.

I’m known as the “Wizard of Denim”, transforming the world’s most democratic fabric into couture-level luxury through vision and craftsmanship.

The water in Ibara City, Okayama, is perfect for dyeing denim — it gives the fabric a shade of blue reminiscent of the sky peeking through clouds after a rain shower.
